About the Author

I write under the name Dassie Dahan and I was born and raised in the USA, but have lived in Israel for nearly all my adult life. I'm married with several kids from the age of five to the early twenties.
I'm passionate about Judaism and Israel. I read on a wide variety of subjects (mostly non-fiction) and I think my writing reflects that.

What's in a Name?

My grandmother was called Dassie (Hadassah) in Hebrew, but always went by Daisy. She was very into "the arts" and loved fine literature. Well, I don't write fine literature, but I think she would be happy about me publishing books and that I'm doing something in the field of "the arts."

My mother-in-law's last name was Dahan. Her family registered her in school around age 6, but in the wake of the increasing tensions in Morocco at that time, her family underwent a trauma that ended up killing her father. Without the main breadwinner, the finances collapsed. Her mother, a regal and generous woman, was crushed by all the loss and couldn't keep things going any longer.

With everything falling apart, my mother-in-law could no longer attend school.

So she never learned to read.

However, she always pushed her children to do well in school, telling them since they have the opportunity that she never had, they might as well make the most of it.

Since she never has been and never will be able to experience the pleasure of reading a book, I felt like maybe she deserves to at least have her name on a book.

Sometimes, these little tributes are the best we can do.
